Choices & Chains

Choices & Chains picture

We were born into an unknown world. People, places and things around us change on a regular basis. Nothing stays the same.

As we grow up we make decisions. Some of them hasty, some of them influenced by the people we surround ourselves with, some by peer pressure, and some even based on our feelings or even our circumstances. We know that some of our decisions that we make might have consequences down the line but we intend to ignore it or brush it off.

Life is never easy. It’s within those times when life gets though that we just give in and seem to make decisions based on whatever is applicable in that moment. Sometimes making the right decisions can be very difficult in the world we live in today. This world is broken in some ways. We live in a society where social media is the biggest culprit. It has opened doors to so many harmful things such as cyber bulling, how we should see ourselves rather than accepting ourselves for who we are. It has taken time away from families. The list is endless.

We come to a point in our lives where we just accept that what we do is considered as right and acceptable to us. Our decisions that we make – it becomes easier. So easy that one day we find ourselves stuck. We have that moment where doubt creeps in. By this time we feel like it’s too late. Too late to turn back and we feel helpless. We feel like we have failed everyone around us including ourselves. We feel lifeless, hopeless and most of all alone. We feel like the world will judge us for what we have done. We feel so far down that our minds even consider being six feet underground. Our whole world in that moment just feels so dark

We feel like a prisoner detained by chains.

We cannot see ourselves free and these chains keep on getting heavier and heavier until a tiny thought shoves its way through the chaos in our minds and makes its way to the center stage and starts to scream with anguish - Is there anyone out there as I need help?!

It takes a lot of courage to admit that we need help in getting freed from the chains that weigh us down. We know that we need to start somewhere but how do we do that? What do we need to do and who is willing to help us in this state that we are in?

All we need to do is call out to Jesus. We need to give Him all our faults, failures and sins. We need to repent and give Him our shattered hearts that have been broken by this world. We just need to let go and surrender.

As soon as we do that...He will break every single chain.

Psalm 107:13-16 "13 Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble,
    and he saved them from their distress.
14 He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom;
    he snapped their chains.
15 Let them praise the Lord for his great love
    and for the wonderful things he has done for them.
16 For he broke down their prison gates of bronze;
    he cut apart their bars of iron."

We were born into an unknown world. People, places and things around us change on a regular basis. Nothing stays the same but God never changes. He is the same God yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He does not change (Malachi 3:6). Therefore He still speaks (Job 33:14); heals (Exodus 15:26); comforts (John 14:26); provides (Philippians 4:19); creates (Job 12:7-10); restores (1 Peter 5:10); redeems (Ephesians 1:7); and manifests (Romans 1:19)

In the end its okay to ask Jesus to break all your chains
